Since it was chartered as a church, just months after Coral Gables was officially born in the mid-1920s, First United Methodist Church has been a vital part of the Coral Gables community. In July 1926, 100 people signed a document, committing themselves to the creation of a new family of faith in a growing community. They pledged: “I feel it is a privilege, as well as an opportunity, to share in the work of our great church here, and helping to co-operate in the building of God’s Kingdom in the world.”
Over the next almost-100-years, the people of First Coral Gables have sought to live out that pledge, sharing God’s love in practical ways with the community around us. This congregation helped launch the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, which partners with the city and other agencies to alleviate homelessness and poverty. We work closely with Branches ministry, offering support and encouragement to families, children, and youth in need. The Grammy-nominated Seraphic Fire had its beginnings at our church. Through these ministries and many others, over and over again the people of First Coral Gables have labored to find new ways to reach out in love to our South Florida community… and to the world.
That is our shared history.
We believe that is also our shared future.
Shared with each other.
Shared with the God who created us all.
We can’t wait to see what comes next!
